Coma Cinema – Wondering

My friends back home mentioned how incredible Chemical Peel is.  They were not kidding.  This band features a wonderful trio of people that I believe are pretty young, but unbelievably talented.  If you love The Coathangers, Sonic Youth, or pretty much just badass music, you’ll have to dig this.  Check out their myspace for some more tunes, and more importantly their brand new Facebook page to hear the song Virus!

Chemical Peel – Singing Western

Hey everybody,

Sometimes life is pretty crazy, it is for me right about now…. because I have moved to the West Coast and LA.  My heart is still in South Carolina right now, but I am not physically there.  I’ll do a late best of 2010 later. Stay Sweet.

Today I found out that apparently Pocahaunted is no more. This is what was written by the latest Pocahaunted 7″ Threshold that just came out.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, bands to solo projects – it’s all the same arc. And here it is, the final RIP action by star-crossed NNF institution Pocahaunted and the only recorded document of the final triforce-vocal line-up featuring Leyna Noel on keys/crooning/dance magic…… Roll the credits, this is the end.

I am pretty bummed to say the least. At least my girlfriend and I got to catch them at Harvest Records in Asheville a few months back. I can only guess that Amanda and crew will be focused on running Not Not Fun/LA Vampires now. We wish them the best. In the meantime, this 7″ only has 500 copies so I would act on this sooner rather than later. If this sounds nearly as good as they did live in Asheville, this is one thing you will not want to miss. Pocahaunted – Save Yrself (It’s Nice)

I have a major soft spot for the War on Drugs as mentioned previously, but if the song Comin’ Through is any indication of what is to come from their new album Future Weather, then consider me super stoked.  If you are in the area, they are playing a show in Asheville September 14th at the Grey Eagle.  I hope I can find the funds to go, but you shouldn’t miss out, they were really awesome at Transfigurations last year.

Future Weather comes out October 26th via Secretly Canadian (a label with some South Carolina roots) and you can order this awesomeness here when the time comes.

But seriously,  this movie is fantastic and the soundtrack is equally fantastic.  Nothing better than hearing Alison Pill yell out “WE ARE SEX BOB-OMB 1, 2, 3, 4″.  Enjoy it as much as I did and buy the soundtrack.  I am still trying to track down a copy on vinyl in a physical store.  If not pre-order in here.
